⛔ „Hey Armand, this is Nick Cegelski with XYZ. Did I catch you at a bad time?“
(It’s always a bad time, you’re literally cold calling….)
✅ „Armand, this is Nick Cegelski with XYZ. I know you didn’t expect me to call you this afternoon. Do you mind if I take one minute to tell you why I called and then you can tell me whether or not it makes sense for us to speak?“
(Get permission to speak if you want the other person to listen to what you have to say)
⛔ „Hey Armand, this is Nick Cegelski with XYZ. How are you today?“
(They know you don’t really care. And even if you do, it’s what the last 6 cold callers said)
✅ „Armand, we work with a number of Sequoia-backed portfolio companies. It’s Nick, over at XYZ. Have you heard the name tossed around?“
(Lead with context that shows you did research. Instantly differentiate from the car warranty folks)
The first 60 seconds are where cold calls live and die.
